My Journey to Dental Hygiene
My name is Alyssa, but most call me Lyssa. I enjoy listening to music, spending time with family, and relaxing when I can. I am a very proud "auntie LaLa" to 5 beautifully amazing little kids who mean the world to me. I am a Sacramento native whose passion for teeth began at an early age. I was a sophomore in high school when my older brother who was nearly finished with dental school asked me what I wanted to do when I graduated. At the time, I wasn't too sure what I wanted to do, but knew I wanted a career helping people. My brother began to tell me about the dental field, specifically dental hygiene and all of it's rewards. Initially, I didn't know what to think about working in another persons mouth, but the career path sounded very rewarding. After graduating, I began working as a front office assistant in my brother’s dental practice while I went to school to become a registered dental assistant. While working as a registered dental assistant, I took pre-requisite courses for dental hygiene. Upon acceptance into a dental hygiene program, it finally hit me... I AM ALMOST THERE! The hard work, tears and stress had paid off (had I known then, it was only the beginning!)
Working in this field has been the most rewarding experience of my life. I have built relationships with both fellow employees and patients that I will cherish for the rest of my life. My dental hygiene journey has only begun and I look forward to a lifetime career helping patients improve and maintain their oral health one smile at a time.
I will be using this webpage to provide research and discuss topics that pertain to the oral health of special need and periodontal patients.
